How to Deal with a Skin Freak-Out?

My skin has not been impressed with me in the last couple of months. This is probably new information for you, as I haven’t mentioned it around these parts. I jest. It was initially due to the high amount of croquettes I ate in Mallorca. However, I haven’t had one in months, and they still hang around making a big song around the time my period comes in to say hello. Wonderful.

It’s likely a delayed response from me taking the pill. This is combined with hormones and stress. There’s a silver lining to all of this. It has made me feel #blessed, and it has made me extremely grateful. It’s also allowed me to test some blemish-busters on some really big, juicy ones. Overall, Mercury Retrograde didn’t seem too bad this time around. These are my steps when Mercury Retrograde isn’t possible. I also have a list of products that I use that work for me.

FIVE THINGS THAT I DO IF MY SKIN IS NOT HAPPY

ONE

It’s hard to pinpoint what will do to help your situation. Stress won’t make it any easier. My skin is most sensitive to stress and hormones (my chin suffers from them), so I try to pretend they’re not there. They heal quickly with minimal fussing and minimal worry.

TWO

No picking. This is one that I can’t do. I have inherited my Mums’ gene for picking. Mark asked me to see him pop a large spot on his chin. I am a weirdo who enjoys it, but pickling is the worst. This piece of information is not new to me, but I do it anyway. Mark has been instructed to hide his Tweezerman Picker Tool (which is awesome, but terrible, but great!). I also avoid looking in my magnifying glass. It got to the stage where I looked in the mirror every time I came home to drain my face. I now have scars to prove it. Not cool.

THREE

There are three. It’s tempting to apply concealer and then seal it with powder to keep it from moving. But I stick to the products I use and only add a thin layer to reduce redness. You can’t erase texture, so my skin and I have found that accepting it and applying a light layer of concealer to it is the best compromise.

FOUR

You can keep your routine. Keep your routine. It was over. I washed it and left it there until the evening. WOW. It felt like everything was making me breakout, but I stopped all my skincare and realized that my skin wasn’t getting better. My other skin was looking dull and drab. Instead, I decided to stay calm and continue using my regular products. I tried to limit the changes and stick to products I have used over the years. I know my skin loves them. Even though my chin skin doesn’t look great, I can still polish the rest of my face.

FIVE

My skin was getting worse, so I increased my water intake. It didn’t help with my blemishes, but it did make my skin glowy and hydrated, which is always a great distraction.
