The beauty ideals and the millions upon millions of products that can help us achieve them vary across the globe. One thing that remains constant is that our skin and body health can be affected by what we put in them. What does that mean?
Food
Rainbow diet
It’s easy to see how it works: Your vitality will be maximized by including all colors in your diet. This will make your meals look amazing (yay!) and send your healthy body messages. What’s that? A pot of gold!
Collagen supplements
Vitamin AThis vitamin plays a significant role in cell regeneration and skin health. You can get plenty from an animal- and plant-based foods like carrots, spinach and tomatoes. You should also know that smoking and alcohol can cause Vitamin A deficiency (#justsaying).
Vitamin C Vitamin C is a vital molecule for skin health. Sweet potatoes, oranges, broccoli, and berries are good sources.
Zinc helps to make collagen fibers and regulates the Sebaceous Gland’s function, leading to acne. Almonds, spinach and salmon are all good natural sources of zinc.
Copper If zinc is responsible for collagen fibers, then copper connects them. Copper helps maintain bone, heart, and blood vessel health.
Vitamin E
This antioxidant prevents premature aging from sun damage. A deficiency can also lead to health problems such as high intakes of processed, fried, and fatty foods. Vitamin E can be increased by eating nuts, avocados, spinach, whole grains, seafood, and other high-quality foods.
Avocados
Special shoutout to the amazing green monster that is the avocado. Healthy fats are a great way to have soft, moisturized skin. They also protect your skin from the sun.
Sweet Potatoes
We couldn’t leave this moment without praising the humble sweet potato rich in Beta-carotene. This acts as Provitamin A. This means that it, along with other sources like oranges, carrots and peppers, protects your skin against sun exposure, helping you avoid sunburn and wrinkles.
Broccoli
Broccoli is rich in vitamins and minerals that are essential for skin health. It also contains lutein, a carotenoid similar to beta-carotene. What’s the result? This superfood prevents your skin from becoming dry and wrinkled. It also contains a special compound called Sulforaphane that helps maintain collagen levels and may have anti-cancer properties.
Tomatoes
This product is a great choice for skin health, as it contains Vitamin C, beta carotene, and lutein.
Omega-3
These healthy fats, also known as fatty acids, act as natural moisturizers for the skin and help with its elasticity. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful for conditions like eczema or psoriasis. Oily fish like herring, mackerel, salmon, eggs, coconut oil, flax oil, and chia seeds are good sources.
Amino acids
Do you ever feel completely drained? You are not the only one. You can boost your energy levels by eating more amino acids found in nuts, seeds, legumes, lentils, wild rice, and sprouts.
Spices, herbs
Anti-inflammatory properties are found in ginger, turmeric, cumin and fennel.
Dark chocolate
It’s true. Scout’s honor. Dark chocolate, in moderation, can do wonders to your skin. This is due to cocoa flavanols, which soften the skin. (You’re welcome.) To reap the full benefits of chocolate, ensure you choose 70% cocoa and keep sugar to a minimum.
Take
Water
How much water do I need to drink each day?
You can’t have enough! Water is the most important thing to nourish your skin. It’s great for your overall health and helps flush out toxins. To give your skin the moisture it needs, you should drink six to eight glasses of water per day.
Coconut water
Coconut water is also gaining popularity. It has intensely hydrating qualities and is a good source of Vitamin C, potassium calcium, magnesium, and magnesium.
Tea
Because of its high antioxidants, green tea is increasing in popularity. This is because it helps maintain the skin’s elasticity, fight inflammation, and boost energy.
Fresh juices
This is a great way to get a healthy dose of nutrients in one serving. However, avoid added sugar and preservatives as they can cause skin irritations. Make your own whenever possible. Green juices are even better – a mixture of green vegetables and some fruits – to counter inflammation and under-eye puffiness.
Red wine
We don’t recommend that you drink excessive amounts of alcohol. You might find that red wine is something you enjoy from time to time. Research has shown that resveratrol, a compound found in the skin of red grapes, can have a host of health benefits, including anti-aging.
Supplements
It’s not hard to see why the supplements industry is expanding at an alarming rate. Supplements are a great way to maintain maximum health, especially in today’s fast-paced world that makes it difficult to get all the nutrients we need through diet alone. Pesticides and other chemicals can have a detrimental effect on the nutritional value of soil and, therefore, the quality of the food that grows there. These are just a few examples of supplements that you should consider taking and why.
Vitamin D
You might think that New Zealand is rich in vitamin D. However, excessive sun exposure can lead to more problems than it solves. This anti-bacterial, antioxidant, and anti-viral vitamin will help you get enough of it without putting your health at risk. Vitamin D:
- Boosts elasticity
- Reduces wrinkles
- Increases quality of sleep through the release of melatonin
Probiotics
Probiotics promote the growth of good bacteria. They aid digestion and absorb and move toxins from the body.
